hope this is an apropriate place to ask. i have a pile of dv files captured in final cut pro on a mac. i presume this means they're quicktime of some kind. i don't actually have them yet as they're still on the mac while i'm on a pc system. what's the best way, on the mac, to batch convert the files to dv-avi files for use on my pc? my thinking is to supply a firewire drive, formatted for pc. from there i'd ask the mac user to convert from the mac files on the mac drive to dv-avi's, saving them on this pc firewire drive. will i need proprietary software for the mac? does such a thing exist? anybody know if this can be done within final cut?

    thanks,

  2. If they were captured in FCP, you dont ned to do anything. Final Cut caps in dv-avi, so unless you converted them to something else, just transfer them to your pc.

I do have to ask however, why you would edit on a pc. You have them on a mac, so just eidt it there.

thanks for the info tWoSour. this is a large project being handled at multiple
locations by multiple people on multiple platforms. different folks have different gear so i'm just trying to get things as uniform as possible up front from the central location which is fcp.

thanks again for the info. will try just loading the files. i am a bit surprised, however. i thought fcp was capturing in a quicktime format. that's not correct?

  4. nope, caps on dv-avi, but it uses quicktime to play the files (which doesnt really matter).

I cap'd something last week, and then sent a clip to my buddy, and it played fine on his pc
