  1. Here's what I'm doing, I have a Sony TVR-320 Digital-8 camcorder. I have some old standard 8mm tapes that I want to transfer to DVD, so I play them in the 320 and transfer them to my Panasonic HS2 via a DVI cable to a DVD-RAM disc. I then put them on my computer so I can use TMPG Author to create menus and chapters where I want, but here's the problem.

I have to use MF3 to pull the DVD-Video off my LG GDR-8162B DVD-ROM drive because in Windows 2000, this is the only software I can get to see the RAM disc when placed in the drive.

When I open the MPEG files in DVD-Author, they are different resolutions... such as: The first file it creates says it is 704x480, then the second file is 352x240, then the thrid file is 704x480, and then the forsth sile is again 352x240... and it continues rotating like this for all the files. This causes a few problems, but the biggest is that I can't place all the files in one track because they are different sizes.

Since the original files were 8mm, I know they are all 352x240, but since they were recorded on my HS2 on a DVD-RAM, they should now all be 704x480... why are they mixed?

    Thoughts?

  2. probably because you have the the hybrid filter set to variable instead of fixed (this can be found on the machines "setting" option). Keeping it at fixed will ensure that it will not change the picture resoltuion to conserve disc space and will no longer give you a headache when trying to author

  3. So I'm guessing this is happening during the capture? Once this setting has been changed, should I re-capture the video from my Camcorder to the HS2?

    Thanks for the help

  4. Mazinz, you da man!

I made the change and recorded the video directly from mu Camcorder to a DVD-RAM and once I used MF3 to get it on my PC, it was one file (not multiple) and all (duhh) of one resolution.

Thanks! This was driving me nuts.

  5. and another tip is if you are going to burn it on the pc instead, DO NOT do any editing to the clip on the panny decks harddrive or ram disc. Trust me this really gives author apps a headache and screws things up. If you have to edit, edit it on the PC. Also i have trouble,if i burn multpile clips on a ram disc and try to author that. Most apps will only see the first clip and thats it. So now i do one clip at a time---

    DAMN THEM ALL TO HELL

  6. Hey thanks 4 the 411. That's good thinkin', we record music videos and I have edited them down in the past on the HS2, but now I will dump them as 1 big file on the RAM and use the PC 4 editing. Much faster and easier.

Could you go into a little more detail about problems you encounter if you edit on the Panasonic recorder and then author? This was how I was planning on doing my stuff given the ease of editing on the Panasonic.

Not doubting you but was curious why.
