Well, I've been testing and verifying my panasonic DMR-E60 "field order" and always get the same results!
Well, my Panasonic DMR-E60 records "Top field first (field A)"! I'm thinking that there's must be anything in Panasonic .ifo files (both DVD-RAM and DVD-R (DVD-Video)), that “tells” set top players how to play with the "DVD default field order" (well, as far as I know; “Bottom field first (field B)” – wasn’t it???). I didn't go any further analizing .ifo files but:
-- Why it works well When I play a DVD-R recorded on a DMR-E60 in another DVD-Player; and, when I do any edit with DVD Shrink or open the VOBs or VRO files in DVDWorkshop, DVD-Lab, DVD-Author and reauthor them, it plays like an "inverse field order DVD" and don't play as well as the original ones I recorded on my DMR-E60???
-- I think no one here wants to spend about 6 hours to re-encode a whole DVD only to fix the field order! Am I being so stupid? or perhaps “blind” by not finding here anything about this? … Hey; Is there any post here on this subject? Is it my VHS players? the Panasonic DMR-E60? Is it “right/normal” to record the “upper field first” on ALL stand alone recorders??? Did I miss something here??? I’m very confused! I need some help here!!!
thanks

ok, thanks for that (I always setup for "bottom field first" (in TMPGEnc for ex.) when encoding Mpeg-2 files for DVD-VIDEO). ... Anyway, I still don't understand why my "re-authored DVDs" doesn't play as well as the "originals" (from the Panasonic's recorder). -- I can detect interlaced fields on the re-authored DVDs and those "originals" are correctly de-interlaced! Can you tell me what happens when I re-author them, please?

I had a piece of junk ADS USB Instant DVD once that capped field B first.Originally Posted by lordsmurf

Why are you de-interlacing. If the source material is interlaced, leave it interlaced, you gain little if anything by de-interlacing.Originally Posted by peco

Bugster, you don't gain anything at all by de-interlace. You throw away half the material.

Yeah, I realize that, but isn't it sometimes necessary, eg, when resizing from say 480 to 576 for NTSC to PAL conversion (or vice versa), or is it possible to resize interlaced material without de-interlace first?Originally Posted by lordsmurf

Well I think things are getting too "interlaced" here. Sorry, but I think we are loosing the point and I'll be taking back those DVDs from my clients to see what's wrong. I think it's better to press pause here for now and verify those DVDs again in other "situations"...

But that link show use of this avisynth scriptOriginally Posted by lordsmurfThe highlighted lines look like some form of de-interlacing is going on. Maybe not simply throwing away one field, but its still changing interlaced to progressive, or do I not understand what this script is doing (I know very little about avisynth as I have never used it).LoadPlugin("MPEG2DEC.dll")
LoadPlugin("SmoothDeinterlacer.dll")
