  1. I'm new to this board and did search the forum, but didn't find anything for my exact problem.

My friend just installed the AverTV Studio card and PowerVCRII as recommended in the Capture section of this site, on my PC. I can view the cable broadcast but could only hear sound once I plugged into the microphone jack (we couldn't figure out a way for it to pick up sound from my SoundBlaster card). When we tried to record, we got a "S0002 Cannot view graph" error. Then the screen goes black and we have to restart PowerVCRII to watch anything. The other annoying thing is, once I close PowerVCRII, I have to leave the master panel up on my desktop or else I get the audio from whatever station I was last watching.

I have no idea what to do next. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  2. You should first make sure that you have the audio cable correctly looped from line-out on the AverTV card to line-in on your SoundBlaster card. Then I would make sure that line-in was selected for recording sound in your control panel and make sure that the volume is turned up. You can also make sure that you have the latest drivers for your SoundBlaster card from http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/. You also did not state whether you had the same problem using the software that came with the AverTV card. If you do not have the same problem with that software, then download PowerVCR again from http://www.cyberlink.com.tw/english/download/download.jsp and activate it again. The download may have gotten corrupted. If you also have the same problem with the AverTV application then uninstall all the software for the AverTV card (drivers and applications.) I would then download the AverTV drivers and application from the Avermedia site http://www.aver.com/support/downloads.shtml and reinstall everything from scratch. If you want to be extra careful you can do a system restore back to before you purchased the card. I regularly use this card with PowerVCRII and have never had a problem on ME or XP.

  3. Thank you for your prompt response.

I did not try the software that came with the card as I was hopeful that the PowerVCRII software would do the better job.

As an aside, I routinely capture streaming media for my own personal use and after I posted my original query, I discovered that I could no longer capture the sound from streaming media. Instead, it was recording from the microphone and not my sound card. So I uninstalled PowerVCRII and the Indeo drivers that came with the TV card and did a system restore, which fixed that problem.

Now, I'll do as you suggested and give this a try when I'm not as frustrated. I'll report back with my results (hopefully a good one!).

    Thanks again, jeg_jason!

I have the AverTV Stereo and tried PowerIIVCR and was underwhelmed. I had been capturing to DV, Matrox's MPEG2 - Iframe codec at 50 mpbs and even Huffyuv using IUVCR and the btwincap drivers and then converting with MainConcept or Tmpgenc. I just installed WinDVD Recorder 4.5 and was blown away with the quality. Recording straight to AC3 audio is quite nice, I used the DVD template and had to turn down the audio input (getting to the profiles controls on this interface is not intuitive to me) Picture quality is superb at around 7100 bps and I even used Rejig to drop the file size and it still looked good. I have not used the direct to DVD burner function yet but even if this proves troublesome I think this is the best quality real time, immediately authorable to DVD, mpeg capture setup for me. You might give it a try. trial here:http://www.intervideo.com/jsp/Product_Download.jsp?p=WinDVDRecorder

  5. Steps I took this evening:

    1. Set new system restore point.
    2. Checked to make sure I had the most current driver for my SoundBlaster 5.1 card.
    3. Reloaded the drivers for the AverTV card.
    4. Downloaded .exe file from the PowerVCRII site and installed.
    5. Made sure audio out from TV card plugged into audio in on sound card.
    6. Made sure program set to record audio from line in, turned volume control up.
    7. Set up cable channels on both the AverTV software and PowerVCRII software.
    8. Tried to watch TV...still no sound unless I plugged the audio cable into the sound card's microphone jack (this had to be done on both programs).
    9. Tested video capture on both programs...can get video but no sound.
    10. Discovered that once again, my streaming media capture program would no longer record the audio from a streaming clip.
    11. Screamed.
    12. Uninstalled new programs and drivers.
    13. Ran system restore.
    14. Made myself a drink.

    I'll try fingernailX's suggestion tomorrow.

  6. Your problems seems to be related to what is checked for recording for the sound card.

In the system tray on the far right bottom do a right click on the speaker symbol. Open volume control. Click "Options", Change from "Playback" to "Recording". OK. Put the check-mark on "Line in" Instead of "Microphone". Adjust the recording level.

    That should do it.

  7. I did manage to get my capture program working again (after reinstallling for the upmteeth time the AverTV Studio program). Thanks Coopervid, that's what I ended up doing.

However, I'm still unable to record from the cable broadcast so I've downloaded the trial version of WinDVD and will give it a whirl (had no idea it was so expensive, so it may not be a real option).

Did you select 'mixer' as your sound input? As I recall I have like 8 sound devices, but only my Aver card and my 5.1 PCI card are physically present. I also recall coming out of the Aver card and going into the mic in to get the 20 DB boost.

I really like PowerVCR's interface, look and feel. I just don't like capturing to MPEG2. 2 of my favorite cable channels are very noisey (they are on multiples of system buss frequency) and I invariably have to filter.

  9. Well, you're never going to believe this, but the old freeware CamStudio did the trick. Captures the broadcast just a pretty as can be (since I was only interested in capturing parts of shows, the .avi size wasn't a problem), and I could compress it with WME 7.1 to share with my friends.

Then I found I could use WME 9 to capture clips and the resulting file sizes were smaller than the clips captured using CamStudio, but then found I couldn't compress .avi files I'd captured using other programs. Weird.

  10. Error with Cyberlink Power VCR II S0002:
Just change or update drivers for your Display adapter card should solve the error. Often ATI Radeon cards have this issue.

Do you not find the ghosting artifacts from blended deinterlace to be obnoxious? And what about the artifacts on scene change because of poor I-P-B handling of the encoder?

That's why I find that software completely useless.
