I think TV's are interlaced, and computer monitors are not. Therefore, I should interlace video that's going to be watched on a TV.

BUT, if I'm rendering an mpeg2 and making a DVD out of the video, and the DVD player is a progressive scan, THEN what do I do?

I guess the question is whether the DVD players ALWAYS output interlaced signals to analog TV's and if so, how should I be rendering my videos? (I also think I read that all DV should be "lower field first".

    thanks in advance,

If your source material is interlaced, encode it interlaced. If your source material is progressive, encode it progressive. Let the DVD player/TV take care of the rest.

And Yes, DV is 'bottom field first'
