Using Mainconcept Encoder, could you please tell me of the best settings for quality {dvd-time not an issue} that you have found. Currently, I am using: Search Method - 11 Search Range - 15 Noise Sensitivity - 5 Noise Reduction - 15 Motion Search Mode - 11 Motion Search Pixel Movement - both to 7 2 pass VBR enable 1/2 Pixel Search enable User Quantization Intra DC 2 {10} I have read that raising all in Motion Estimate to 127 and Search Range to 43 is better for quality. Also, is the default setting for GOP already good? Thankyou for any answers.

Your settings sound OK, but it depends on the source.
I'm not at my MC system right now so I'm going by memory (not all that good).
Search Method - 11 (anything higher is a waste)
Search Range - 32 (as high as it goes)
Noise sensitivity - 0 (unless source isn't clean)
Noise Reduction - 0
Motion Search - 11
1-pass VBR (I don't see any improvment using 2-pass)
1/2 Pell Search for video (disable for still image/slideshow)
Intra DC @ 2 (10)
I use the default GOP.
My settings work great for my source videos.Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........ -
