  1. After playing around and intstalling/uninstall aspi drivers
The system refuses to accept the drive as DMA.

    See picture below for device-0

    BIOS sees it as ATA/66

Installed latest via4in1, there are no VIA DMA tools around anymore?

You need to enable UDMA66. This is disabled in XP by default.

    Check out this link:

Microsoft's reasons for disabling dma on some drives:

  3. I did that, though it mention INTEL (I have VIA)

Did not help at all (I removed that dword after that)

As you can see in the picture above the second IDE device (the slave)
has DMA turned on so I'm pretty sure the system handle ATA66/100

    Shuttle AK32L VIA266

Maybe I have to reinstall windowsXP AGAIN.

  4. Hey I had the same problem for a while, this is what I did, I took the cd/dvd drive out and install an old cdr drive that I have that I new worked with dma. restarted the computer and xp recognized it.
I checked the if dma was working, and it was.
So after I took the old cdr out and put the cd/dvd drive in and then xp recognized that drive.
So there you go, maybe that will help you out.
P.S. I also changed my aspi drivers to 4.60 messed with it a lot before figuring that out, the microsft website helps but not much

Check it again later. You may find that XP changes it back to PIO. Microsoft mention in the link I posted that if XP gets a few read errors it disables DMA!

    Try downloading Xteq X-Setup:

    http://www.xteq.com/downloads/#xset

The enable UDMA66 function did the trick for me.

  7. Hate to bring this old topic up but I'm having the same problem. I've tried to delete and reinstall the primary and secondary ide controllers. I was able to delete the secondary controller but I lost the "advance" tab and I'm not able to check/switch dma. Everytime I delete the primary controller, I can never restart in normal mode so that xp will reinstall the drivers. I tried the windows tweeker and was able to set the hd controller to udma66 but my burn times are the same. Help please.

I had the same problem with my nec2500a, until I enabled dma in the bootup (setup screen).

I had the problem with my btc 1008. I fixed the problem by putting the drive on the same ide cable as the hard drive and eliminating the secondary channel altogether. The burner is the slave on the primary cable, and is ultraDma 4.
