  1. I recently borrowed a Hitachi (mini DVD) camcorder from a visiting friend. I was 100% certain that I successfully recorded on the DVDs because I was able to watch (repeatedly) all the footages when I played it on the camcorder. I have since then returned the Hitachi camcorder and my friend already left for overseas.

The problem is when I tried to watch the DVDs on my PC recently, the disk drive can't read (or see) anything except a 44kb audio file. It can't see any available video files. I tried using a different PC and it still can't be read.

I have extensively googled about it and even scoured the Hitachi website for support and didn't find the solution that I was looking for.

Would there be any downloadable application or software that would allow me to read these DVD-Rs?

My guess is that you did not finalise the discs in the camera before your friend left. Unfinalised discs will often not play correctly in anything but the recording camera (or another of the same make and similar model). if you can get hold of a similar camera you may be able to finalise the discs in it. Otherwise you could try ISOBuster (not free), which some have been able to use in similar situations to recover footage.

Worst case, post the discs to your friend, get him/her to finalise the discs, and post them back to you.

We used our daughter's hitachi dzmv200a mini dvd camcorder to record Christmas. My daughter finalized the disc and we brought it home to our house. We can watch the disc but cannot copy it to the hard drive in our computer or the hard drive in our dvr. Any ideas on how to copy the disc?

Make sure is has been finalised correctly in the device that created it (recorder). Consult your manual for instructions.

Perhaps ISOPuzzle ? Also worth trying to read it in a different reader. If all that fails, you may have to write the rest off as lost.

Thanks for all the help. I was able to copy one disc but the other one will not go, perhaps it just has too many errors.
