  1. I talked to Teac tech. , not sure. I talked to Lite-On tech. , can't confirm it's a Lite-On drive. I looked on rcp1.org, no go. Anyone?

If this is a Lite-On drive, what model is it? Does the speedhack work for burning -R at 8x? Also, if it supports dual layer, would I need an updated firmware and from where?

  2. I have a Teac DV-W58E and it is Dual layer writer. I have been able to write MKM Dual layer media with it and had no issues playing the media back in most players. Never heard of the DV-W58G model.

The E and G are two completely different drives. And the G and G-A are two fairly different drives, too.

  4. Teac DV-W58E is a OEM BENQ drive. I recently exchanged this drive which came with my Dell comp for a Nec 2100 drive. When I removed the drive I saw on the top side there was a lable saying BENQ technologies.

    Cool, thanks!

There has been a lot of speculation over which company made the 'E' since Teac no longer makes its own drives and rebrands what it sells.

  6. Before sending it back to Dell, I opened up the drive and the main circuit board which connects the power cord and the IDE cable was printed TEAC not not BenQ. Does Teac make those boards?

  7. Dunno. Hard to say.

e.g., LiteOn's board have Sony printed on them (they have a "strategic alliance") when they're really LiteOn-designed and LiteOn-made.
