  1. ok well im tired of wasting my cds so i'm will explain my whole deal, i have a whole bunch of avi's that i want to burn to a cd to watch on my dvd player, and i just got a portable dvd player that i want to use that can watch cd-r cd-rw and dvd-r, usually i will just encode the avi to mpeg using tempgen thing and then i will burn using nero to vcd, ok, well when i have a file that is in widescreen already so it has the letterbox and is in avi format and i try to convert it to mpeg and burn, it always ends up that it will stretch out the movie and make it fullscreen and look all weird, so i dont know whats up with that, anyway i got a dvd burner, and i was wondering if i can just directly burn a avi to the dvd-r without messing with the avi video format, like is it a lot easier using the dvd burner, and can someone give me instruction on how i can do so, act like i have no knowledge of this lol, i want to burn a avi to a dvd-r

you need to convert the file to an Mpeg2 to be burnt onto a dvd.

it sounds like you need to select "full screen(keep aspect ratio)" in TMPGEnc, if your using the wizard it's under 'other settings' and in the advanced tab.

First of all - yes, stop wasting your discs, and give yourself a favor and buy some Re-f*cking-Writable media!

I wish someone would have made a sticky on each forum for newbies saying "HAVE YOU GOT CD/DVD-RW BLANK(S) YET?"

I'll assume that's a question. Yes you can burn an avi direct to DVD but your portable dvd player won't play it, just your pc.

  6. man and see i wanted to do this with a lot of movies, but its such a long process, there isn't just one program that will do it all? like you input the file, say the video format, yes you actually say it lol, and you click what you want the format to be and then hit burn, and it will do it all, a window with 4 buttons and thats it, no messing with all this sh*t and running 18 different programs lol

It's really not that simple, theres too many options and choices for it to be that simplified. Theres plenty of guides in the guides section on the left that will help you do anything you want with videos. I've followed many of them myself.

Make your life easier, get a hardware mpeg2 capture card, TmpGenc DVD Author and Nero...capture>author>burn in a total of around 2 hours 30 minutes for a 2 hour movie.
