  1. I am downloading a lot of new videos from BitTorrent and they are all encoded in XVID but they don't play in my player. The video starts to play and freezes, both video and audio. A few seconds later I get maybe another second or two of video and audio and freezes again. I have tried about 10 different videos and all seem to have this problem. I am assuming that this is due to the newest version of XVID because any video I downloaded a month ago or earlier played (and stil plays) perfectly. However, I've encoded a bunch of video using the RC4 release and don't have this problem. Could it be a bug with an earlier release (RC3 or something)? I am trying to encode video with this codec to reproduce the problem and I am not having much luck.

Anyone have any ideas or things I can check?

    Thanks in advance,

Yeah, good luck on that. I can't seem to make any divx movie which will even start to play on my LiteOn LVD-2001 (3.02 Firmware). All it does is flash the filename and/or lock up the box so I have to unplug it to get the disc out. I don't know what I'm doing wrong and nobody seems to be willing to offer a suggestion. I've posted both in the players forum and in the avi forum with all the details.

  6. I make XVID files all the time with Koepi's RC4 build and have no problems playing them on my Liteon 2002 (with 3.02 firmware). I've been using VirtualDub MPEG2 to make my XVID files. I usually use MP3 audio at 44 KHz, 224 kbps, stereo, but I have used other bitrates (as low as 128) and 41 KHz sampling too.

  7. It has somthing to do with how the video is compressed the new rc4 have some extra options that the older ones did not.when these otpions are used it wont play.u can try reencode the files wothout these options.I think that will fix it.

  8. When making your own Xvid files be sure not to use Quarterpel and Global Motion Compensation. I don't think any of the hardware players support these features.

If it will help, some of the other settings I use are:

    Global Settings group
    ---------------------
Motion Search Precision: 6 Ultra High
    Quantization type: H.263
    FourCC used: XVID
Maximum I-frame interval: 100 (the default is 300)
    Minimum I-frame interval: 1
    All checkboxes off

    B-frame control group
    ---------------------
    Maxmimum B-frames: -1
    B-frame quantizer ration: 150
    B-frame quantizer offset: 100
    All checkboxes off except
    DX50 B-VOP compatibility: checked

I usually use 2-pass compression. But I doubt that makes any difference in compatibility with the player.

I'm using Koepi's build. After selecting the codec with VirtualDub (or whatever software your using) select Configure. From the Xvid Configuration dialog select Advanced Options. From the next dialog select the Global tab. All the settings I listed are there.

  11. I'm using Koepi's final version and I don't have global tab in advanced settings... only:
    Debug
    Quantization
    Motion

That's odd. I'm using the final 1.0 build too. Mine has six tabs: Global, Quantization, Two Pass, Alt. Curve, Credits, and Debug.

    I downloaded from here: http://www.koepi.org/

I see there's a 1.0.1 update available now. I was using RC4 up until a few weeks ago. I don't remember if it had all six tabs but it definitely had the Global tab with most (if not all) of the settings I listed ealier.

  14. I think I see the difference: I'm getting to the configuration dialog from within applications using the menu option where you select compression codecs. I think you are getting to the settings via Start, All Programs, Xvid, Configure Encoder. When I use that method I get only the three tabs you listed.

  15. I tried both ways ... In virtualDub and codec encoder settings
    Same thing

  16. I installed the xvid codec (I tried both 1.0 and 1.0.1) on another computer and saw the same thing you did -- only three tabs on the Advanced Options dialog! The six tab dialog must be from an old version of the codec. I don't know why it still shows up on my main editing computer.

You can access the additional settings via the "more" button on the "Profile @ Level" line of the main Xvid Configuration dialog.

  17. Looks like you right !
Can you please review yor settings one more time ?
There is some major changes ... like:

    B-frame quantizer ration: 150 DEFAULT 1.50
    B-frame quantizer offset: 100 DEFAULT 1.00

Since I have NO idea what that means I would be grateful
if you can post recommended settings in the new codec setup

    Thanks !

  18. Here are the settings I usually use to make files that the Liteon LVD-2002 can play. Most of these are the defaults.

After pressing "more..." on the "Profile @ Level" line of the Xvid Configuration dialog:

    Profile @ Level: AS @ L5
    Quantization type: H.263
    Adaptive Quantization: not checked
Interlaced Encoding: checked or not depending on video
    Quarter Pixel: not checked
    Global Motion Compensation: not checked
    B-VOPs: checked
    Max consecutive BVOPs: 2
    Quantizer ratio: 1.50
    Quantizer offset: 1.00
    Packed bitstream: checked
    Closed GOV: checked

I believe the Quarter Pixel and GLobal Motion Compensation options must be disabled for the Divx files to play on set-top DVD/Divx players.

  20. I've got the LVD-2002 and have noticed that several new XVIDs do not play either. So this problem isn't just limited to the 2001 model. Lite-On dropped support of this player after only 6 months and right before XVID was finalized.

I will NEVER, EVER buy another Lie-On product as long as I live. I bought this thing for XVID support and now even that doesn't work! GRRRRR!
