Hi Guys !
My cousin lives in Japan and in Brazil (where I live) there are very few options when buying DVD-R media. So I asked her to buy some DVD-Rs for me in Japan. She bought 5 - 5 Pack boxes of brands: Fujifilm, JVC, Sony, Panasonic and Maxell. On the Panasonic box it says DVD-R FOR VIDEO. But on Sony's and on Fujifilm's box it doesn't say it's for video or data. And on the Maxell box it says FOR DATA, as well as it says on the JVC too.
Does this mean I can't (or shouldn't) use these DVD-R with my Panasonic E50 ? I don't want to open the nice package they come in, if I will have to sell them.
Can anyone help me ? Thanks !

I was looking at Maxell and JVC's Japanese page and they separate the For Data and For Video discs in two categories, as if to say that you can't use the For Video on your DVD-R Writer, and can't use the For Data on your Stand alone Recorder.
Meanwhile, checking at Sony's Japan page I realize they don't make any difference between video or data. For them it's all the same, they only call your attention for DVD-R and DVD+R. But they never mention anything about being for data or for video.
And on fujifilm's Japonese page they say this 5 pack I have is for video and for data.
I was thinking that maybe the ones thet say is for data has a different dye color. All the ones I have bought that have for video written on the media are blue. Are the For data in another color ? Maybe it is the color that makes a difference. Maybe the one that says it is for video, will play with more stand alone DVD players. Gosh, why do they complicate it ?Ana C Costa

No. It's just marketing. Same discs, whatever use. Video is data too. It's all 1's and 0's.

I dont know about Max's dvds in your Panasonic, as I said, I only use Accus or Panasonic disks. Those recorders are picky. U can find what works with them at meritline.com they have a great list of what works with what.

Weirdly enough after my first test of the E3 -R discs, the first one of which said that it could not finalize the disc in my Panasonic E80H (even though it did and the disc played back on all 7 of my players), I've been using them exclusively for non essential recordings (movies, sports, news spots, etc.) and they work perfectly. I've also successfully used them on the Pioneer A05 (which seems to love them...burns with no errors). My buddie's A04 on the other hand hates them and won't finalize them at all. His loss for not updating his hardware when he had the chance. So, a good buy at $80CAD/100...
