    Hello,

Ok, here's the deal. Say whatever you want about Star Wars. I won't get into too big of a fight.

    Love it?? Great.

Hate it?? Ok - explain if you want.

This is an approved free for all. I now you originalists will flock to this.

  2. uh...well...

Not really my style - I tried to get into it but I just don't really get it

I'm ok with some sci-fi but this is one just doesn't do much for me.

Saw the original in the theater sometime back in '78
Had a Super 8mm film of it around the same time...everyone else seemed to be so into it but I didn't get what it was they saw in it.

The new DVD release looks cheesier than what I remember seeing way back, but maybe I just didn't notice then.

I'm not wild about anyone in the cast either - even after Carrie Fisher uttered the line Wanna F#@k? to Warren Beatty in Shampoo prior to her Princess Leia role...I can't say it helped :P

That the cast for the movie, Carrie, were all oringally trying out for Star Wars and were turned down...maybe the movie would've been a little more interesting to me had Amy Irving and William Katt got the leads instead.

    Maybe not.

Lucas was always re-editing his films...even his earliest student films have been axed and re-edited.
He must be a Kenneth Anger fan.
American Graffiti was re-released in '78 with additional scenes...then back to the original version for video.
It's also had some makeovers in each video edition - the DVD version looks terrible compared to the early '90s VHS edition.

I like Lucas when he's down to earth - Star Wars is just a little too far out for my tastes.

I don't mind if others enjoy it though - if it's your thing, more power to ya

Star Wars sucks. Simple as that in my book

To me the movies are VERY slow and boring. I want a movie to be fast paced and keep me interested. No Star Wars movie has ever done that for me.

I've seen them each once all the way through - when they were originally released.

they just didn't make that much of an impression on me, and the only time I really pay them any mind is when I'm watching a Kurosawa movie and I think "where have I seen that shot before... oh yeah, Lucas swiped it in Return of the Jedi..."

I do think he's doing a disservice to the fans by not releasing the original edits, the same way I thought Alan Douglas was doing a disservice when he was re-editing Hendrix masters in the 80's.

    Hello,

Huh?? Who are you arguing with???? This is just to let people talk about it anyway they want to. I know some people love it like me and others could care less.

Not all imput can be to your liking, right?

I like them all. I stumbled on some pristene vhs
tapes of the originals. I immediately transferred
them to dvd. I am looking forward to seeing the
re-releases of the originals to see how much better
they are than mine. I was so taken aback by R2D2
that I built a little robot of my own. Her name was
    AEMI. Autonomous Electonic Machine Intelligence.

    my thoughts exactly.
    my thoughts exactly.

My brother used to watch them all the time and it made me resent them really badly.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  23. I saw the first Star Wars in the Astoria Cinema in Iraklion, Crete, Greece in '77. It was in English with Greek subtitles. In the middle of one of the battle scenes they stopped it and had intermission. No popcorn, but they did serve beer and Cokes in glass bottles with a drinking glass. It cost about a dollar.

In any event, I have never been a fan of Star Wars. I saw the 2nd movie in San Francisco, and have never seen another. I'm a lot more into gangster movies, although I did like the FIRST Matrix movie. The others got progressively worse (as far as my tastes go).....

Me too on "Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi" as I was bored watching them.

I did really enjoyed the original "Star Wars" movie though. This is to show that movie sequel's don't normally seem to be as good as the first.

Some exemptions though such as T2.

The only good thing about them is the image and sound as so much better than the old VHS tape.

They maybe boring but the AV can be stunning to watch and I would have to get a big TV to appreciate the SW Trilogy a bit better just like in the cinema.

I think George Lucas is doing the DVD re-release so late just for money.

I used to really enjoy Star Wars when I was younger. As far as story goes, there really isn't that much there. Forget about the dialog. George Lucas should never be allowed to write anything even related to dialogue. I give credit to any actor that has work with screenplays written by him, and has to deal with that awful cardboard dialogue.

  29. As soon as I saw the opening sequence "In a galaxy far far away", etc., I knew exactly what was going to happen. I always found the "making of" documentaries a lot more interesting than the movies themselves.

In general, I'm not that fond of movies that are largely shot on sets and that depend heavily on special effects, such as many of the "space opera" type of movies. Obviously lots of people do like them, which is fine with me, but I could never get into them for the most part.....

That's understandable. I'm the same way with a lot of drama and theater stuff. I just don't get that much enjoyment out of going to see a live play. There ok it's just not what I'm interested in.
