I have a few downloaded episodes of Sopranos which are AVI's. I am using Roxio Toast and a Mac Powerbook, why does only one episode fit on my DVD? Each episode is around 350mb. I was hoping to get around four episodes onto each DVD. I have tried many things before resorting to this. Can anybody help please? I have Toast, DVD Backup, DVD2one and ffmpegX.

its because you are usint toast in the VIDEO Tab
manually convert the .avi over to .m2v and .mp2 and build an image with sizzle. you should be able to fit a lot more this way
hope this makes since. if not look to some tutorials on my site or read the posts here more -
Thanks for the reply. Do I need to create it in the DATA tab then? Would it be possible for you to break it down for me in more detail? i'm not sure how to create those 2 extensions you suggested. I have downloaded sizzle ready. Cant find a tutorial for this either, everything but this. Thank you for your help.

please be more specific
how far did you get? -
Sorry. I open up MPEG2 Works click the DVD/SVCD tab, click DVDPAL 4:3, select my sopranos.avi file click save. It says encoding audio for about two seconds then I get - AppleScript Error (-2700)??????????????????
Any Ideas? I really appreciate your help by the way. -
Hi There
I am in business. I have managed to convert it to DVD. My only concern is that it took over 4 hours encoding, is that normal??? seems like a long time to me...

your profile says nothing about your computer........ so unless my ESP skills are working tonight [which they are not] i have no idea how long it should take your computer.
mine is about 4-6 hours so it sounds about right. If you have a G5 then its probably on the 4 hour end.
Thats actually REALLY FAST!!!!!!!
obviously you dont recall the days where dvd to svcd/vcd was 32 + hours of processing!!!!!!!!!!
hahahahaha -
Before anyone attempts to report this post, remember that it has already been established that downloading television episodes is okay.

I have my disc images of each episode, now how on earth can I get TOAST to create a dvd in DATA TAB mode that will play all three of them on one DVD? I tried just copying the Images over waited an hour for TOAST to burn them, and found out it's not a proper DVD that will work in my Sony stand alone. Also I would need some kind of menu on the finished DVD and I could not see how that will work in Toast's data tab???

Talking about downloaded TV shows (but not movies) is ok.
You can also talk about anything so long as the method
to obtain the title and the title itself are not mentioned.
In those cases, we have to assume you have copyright
unless otherwise stated.

Which, by the way, is where you tell Toast that you want to have it create menus.
To recap:
To turn .AVIs into DVD-Rs using Toast 6.x, use the Video Tab. Drag the .AVIs to the main window (I usually do 2 or 3), set everything up the way you want and click the big red "burn" button.
If you get the "not enough memory" error, simply go under the "File" menu and select "Save As Disc Image". Wait for hours. Take the resulting .toast disk image and mount it via the "Copy Tab" (Image File option).
If the .toast disk image that you just mounted is 4.36GB or smaller, you can burn it directly to DVD-R in Toast using the "Data" tab.
If the .toast disk image that you just mounted is larger than 4.36GB, then you need to run the VIDEO_TS folder on the disc image through DVD2oneX to shrink it down to 4.36GB. Once shrunk down, then burn it directly to DVD-R in Toast using the "Data" tab.
If the .toast Disc Image file is a lot larger than 4.36GB, given the amount of compression that will have to be done to get it to that size, you might consider doing the entire process all over again with one or more fewer episodes.
OR:
Use Galactica's "AVI to DVD-R" tutorial; it works also! -
geeze........ look at all the hype this got.
wouldnt you think as mod if i thought it was crossing the line id card him and close the topic?!?! -
Easy galactica.. Easy.

any way...... back to business as usual. -
