  1. I know a lot of people out there are saying right now it depends what kind of television you have and what the specs are on your computer.
    I just want a broad idea of which people find better results with Nero Recode 2 vs. DVD Shrink for backing up their bought DVD's.

    i am glad this topic came up. there is a lot more fine tuning available in Recode as opposed to Shrink. Shrink of course is free, but, you have to have NERO to burn with Shrink--that is--unless you use DVD Decrypter, which also is free. i have NERO 6 with Recode, and of course I have Shrink. I still can't tell the difference. does anybody else see any difference????

  4. The gentleman that developed DVDShrink now works for Ahead Corp (Nero Products). They both use the same engines. For my use I prefer Nero Record, at least for me it appears to work much better. DVDShrink will not be developed any further then it is. There may be some minor bug fixes to the current version. I believe that all his efforts are now going to further development of Nero Record. Because Nero is in the business of selling their product, any bugs reported by customers will be fixed and demands for upgrades and added features will be the focus of any future development of that product. Of course everyone has their own personal preference as to what that use and what they expect to get of any product. On my system and all my players, Nero record works best for me.

    Things Nero Recode 2 seems to support:

    Two-Pass Encoding (always makes a difference to video quality at the end of the day)

    Things Nero Recode 2 doesn't support:

    Ripping encrypteed files
    ISO Image File creation (bad thing to not support)
    Resuming analysis where it was previously stopped for whatever reason (VERY bad thing to not support)

    So far, I'm in favour of DVDShrink, but this could change when I burn a disc that I made in Recode. We'll see.

  6. Nero Record 2 will support Ripping encrypteed files when used with AnyDVD. I use it to go from DVDROM to DVD Burn without going to HD.

  7. Nero Recode eats a lot of resources. Shrink runs much more smoothly.

    Nero Recode costs $$. DVD Shrink = Free

    Hmm...

    I'm new to this and am planning to buy Nero 6. I want to back up my DVD movies. This topic appears to be dealing with the one issue which I have found difficult to answer during my research:

    To make copies of my (protected) DVD movies do I need additional software to Nero or does Nero do it for me? Is Nero recode the same as DVD shrink?

    The Nero website mentions nothing about having to download additional software and I was going to buy it on that basis.

    It supports it, I've just used it this weekend;

    Shrink has been crashing on my Computer, so I've been using Recode;

    I think both are essentialy the same programs as have been written by the same person; weirdly Shrink crashes and Recode doesn't;

  10. Tough call I know there both developed by the same person so they should work about the same, I like Shrink because I don’t need to run another program in the background (AnyDVD) to backup my DVD’s. I like the GUI of Recode better but I don’t like the fact that I have to install 2 sub par programs NeroVision Express 2, Nero ShowTime along with it. If Nero gave me the option of just installing Recode then I would probably switch from DVDShrink.
