What are the rest of your system specs?
Keep in mind that for the X800 cards you need at least a 300w power supply for the Pro and 350 for the XT. Further you need a 400w or better for the power-hungry 6800. I've always been an nVidia user but the difference between these cards is so negligeable that I would go with whatever I get a better price on. Since I've got power to spare on my system I'd still opt for the 6800 since I like their driver support better. X800 has awesome AA though.
The RAM is dependent on your system. You don't need PC3200 if you have a Barton core Athlon unless you're overclocking it, yet if you had a single-channel MCH running a Northwood P4 you'd need it. -
system is:
Gigabyte GA-8/K1100
P4 @ 3.0ghz
i decided to go with
Nvidia 6800 ultra
Antec 550W Power Supply
Corsair TWINX1024-3200C2PT 1GB DDR400
what u guys think ?
im not thinking about OC atm but maybe in the future -
550w might be a tad overkill for the system but power to spare is never a bad thing. The True450 or 480 would be a more economical choice. The Antec True series are great power supplies though. PC Power and Computing are another brand of great PSUs.
Which P4 are you looking at exactly? I recommend the 3.2 non-Prescott P4. The Prescotts have some issues and aren't any better than the 130nm process ones (are they Prestonia cores on the P4?). If you get any 800 FSB P4 stay away from the Precotts.
If you are going to try overclocking you'll probably want faster RAM. Like get 500 MHz if you want to run 1 GHz FSB on an 875 platform. No SATA on that board which is odd. It does have a TI 1394 chipset so that's pretty nice.
