Anyone who has this player, is it possible to do firmware updates?
Also does it support SVCD/Mp3/VCD..
I'm interested in purchasing it, just currious about the quality and the firmware, any ideas?

Yes, but I've never had to do a firmwire update as I have the old/original player with the loop menus. The APEX players are actually PC DVD-ROM drives, so it's just like updated a PC.
I can play x(S)VCD and MP3. The MP3 menu structure only shows the dos 8.3 names. So if you list your songs by artist it's hard to read. Also I sometimes have trouble getting (x)SVCDs to start playing?!? But if I hit stop, eject, and play it again it works (kind of odd really).
It's a very basic DVD player, but I've had it for more than a year and it does everything I need/want. -
how bad is the MP3 structure?..Is it still readable..
I'm just looking for a player to play VCD/SVCD/MP3..for a cheap price, how does it do those tasks? -
Like I said it reads the dos 8.3 filename strcucture. So for example:
"Boa - Light Before Darkness.mp3" -> boalig~1.mp3
or something like that. So yeah it's readable but, but if you name songs by artist with long names you get:
name~1.mp3
name~2.mp3
etc. etc.
This is how much DVD players that can read/play MP3s handle things (or most portable mp3 players I've seen). But I know that 'there exist' models that can read the full joilet file names (just don't know which ones, sorry). Hope this helps
