    Hi,

It is my understanding that TMPGEnc supports DV Type 2 natively, and I would like to use this feature without going through the lossy process via RGB (neither using the DirectShow plugin, nor a VfW DV codec).

I thought that the DV AVIs that come out of Premiere (from FireWire capture) are Type 2, but it seems they are not. If I disable the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader, and the AVI VFW Compatibility Reader (in TMPGEnc/VFAPI), then TMPGEnc doesn't load the DV AVI.

I also thought that the "dvsd" FOURCC code (as produced by Premiere) is Microsoft DV AVI, which can be either Type 1 or Type 2. But when running the Type1-to-Type2 converter, it complains that the video is not Type 1. This happens when using an AVI coming out of Premiere, and also when using an AVI that was processed with VirtualDub using Direct Stream Copy.

So, can "dvsd" be something different that both Type 1 and Type 2?
How do I get a Type 2 DV AVI, after all?

    Best regards
    Cosmin

Not sure if this is any help, but have you tried the Canopus DV 1>2 converter? https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=194#comments
    It works for me.

    Thank you very much.

Unfortunately, even after using the Canopus DV File Converter, TMPGEnc still refuses to recognize the Type2 AVI if the DirectShow import filter is deactivated. Which makes me wonder whether TMPGEnc does indeed recognize this format natively, as claimed.

Anyways, your tip about the Canopus converter is very much appreciated.
