the name of this topic was what the articles name was but it was quickly changed to:

    Apple Power Mac G5
Huge improvement over G4, competitive price/performance

supposedly because apple threated to never advertise on this site which features apple .. anyway -- some real world benchmarks using dual xeons , dual amd and dual g5 and a p4 .....

    http://www.macvideopro.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=25633-1

The performance of the G5 represents a profound improvement over its predecessors. As I use various applications on the G5, it has a snappy feel to it that's lacking in the G4. It feels much faster, and its benchmarks show that's not just a perception but a reality (see benchmark table below). In our After Effects benchmarks, the G5 was nearly twice as fast as the fastest currently available Mac G4, soundly whipping it in every test. However, there was only one benchmark, Brian Maffitt's TotalBenchmark comp 1, where the Power Mac G5 beat the fastest PCs we've tested here, which was a disappointment given all the claims that Apple has submitted over the past year about the G5's superiority over any PC. Maybe it is superior using Apple's benchmarks, but in the real world, using actual projects in After Effects and the Maxon Cinema 4D-based Cinebench benchmarks, PCs with Opteron and Xeon chips still rule the speed derby. Even so, the G5 can hold its own against any PC now, unlike its G4 ancestors which lagged far behind PC performance.

Damn it says that X5DAL-powered Alienware box is $5700! Of course it has a Matrox hardware card in it which I think is pretty useless considering how fast processors are these days. However its specs are pretty similar to mine. I'd love to run some benches against that group of PCs. My 875 will smoke that 7505 8)

So was this posted out of spite or something? I use a G5 at work for printing and some content creation and I love it, but then the PC is just a 2.8 P4 so the G5 has got that one beat pretty well. Plus I have never been able to get as good a print output on most of my machines from anything but Macs.

This benchmark is already out of date
Lastest G5 is Dual 2.5ghz water cooled

id like to see the comparison of that to these machines. Still not bad overall

oh anyone see that BMW has integrated iPod controls into thier steering wheels. How sweet is that

All I know is my new = Gfa5t

How does it compare to a like PC processor? I dont really care, its an awesome mac. I use both platforms anyhow.

Its like compairing the speed of a rowboat and a bycycle and declaring one better based on the test. The question is this "It the G5 fast ENOUGH?" the answer is no, but then my XP 3000+ isn't fast enough either.

    both however are very fast
