I've searched thsi forum for an answer to my question to no avail.
I had a SONY 500A burner which burned many DVD-R that were played just fine in my PIONEER 535 desktop player. So far so good.
The bad think is SONY died, and I bought a BTC 1008 which has burned several DVD+RW and a few DVD-R so far. The worst thing is that I cannot play those DVD-R in my PIONEER but I can play my DVR+RW with the same recorded material.
If my PIONEER does play DVD-R (still read my SONY burned ones) why shouldn't it play a BTC burned one?
TIA,

BTC == Burn That Coaster
Your problem most likely is the result of BTC's poor burn quality. Perhaps upgrading to the latest firmware (758, I think??) could help...
Also try using better/different media. Perhaps +R at 4x with bitsetting? -
It could be, but (and I forgot to mention) those DVD-R play just fine in other (most recent) player. My player has 4-5 years old, which means pre-historical
.
Is there anything I can try to do?
BTW, I've seen that new firmware just a few minutes ago - I'll upgrade -
Upgrade done. Nothing changed.
Ideas? -
Exactly which DVD-R discs are you using?
Try using RecordNow to burn.
This may produce a more compatible disc.
Also, your drive has has the capability to do a booktype trick on DVD-R media, which will can cause the booktype to be recognized as DVD-ROM.
Use DVDInfoPro before burning for this function.WesleyTech.com - Blu-ray Disc & consumer technology news, reviews & articles -
I've used both SKY and EMTEC DVD-R disks.
This weekend I've tried 1x-4x PRINCO and everything seems to be alright.
My bad luck both types I had at home didn't work very well with this burner.
PRINCO disks ARE NOT in compatability list from BTC, but I guess it doesn't mean they are not OK, just they were not tested.
Both +RW disk I have ARE in compatability list and worked like a charm.
PS - wesociety, it shouldn't be software related as I burned +RW disks that worked just fine. Thanks anyway. -
BTC pukes up something fierce on PRINCO media. I have two 1004 drives, love them, but I feed them a steady diet of MCC, RITEK, OPTODISC, PRODISC, TYG01, MXL and others of known good quality. Few issues with DVD+R RICOHJPN media too.

Sometimes is impossible to know what media are we buying... I bought these Princo disk at my own risc, since the shop was unable to tell me the media descriptor
. These have are real "PRINCO".
I really would like be sure what are the best media on the marked, because I wouldn't mind spending 20-30% more for them. -
lordsmurf,
does BTC 1004 like prodisc media? Do you get decent results? How does it compare to MCC? Is the difference in price worth the risk?BTC pukes up something fierce on PRINCO media.
