Sticky: FAQ's & The Biggest Misconceptions of DVD MEDIA

From wht I understand it seems like I can't just rely on th eBrand name instead i need to look for the media code. But this media code is not possible obtain unless u buy a pack break it then get the media code info.

Now, I am all confused. Can someone pls advise me about how to choose the best DVD-R media to buy (pre purchase info) please (preferrably in layman's terms) ???

    thx in advance

More information would be helpful. If you post your burner model, others who have that model can tell you what they use.

You also might want to specify whether the media you're looking for is DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+RW or DVD-RW. A particular brand or media type that's good in one format may be garbage in another format.

  4. Media will make or break your DVD creation.

I've reviewed over and over again Lordsmurf's page on DVD Media.... it is a wonderful site.

My personal 'store purchased' favs have been APPLE, MAXELL and FUJI... normally they OEM from good mfg's

  5. I have found that Prodisc S03 works like a charm with my Pioneer 107D. I have also used Optodisc -RW and +RW and have had zero problems. Slightly more controversial and pricey is Ritek G04.

Make sure you get the latest firmware before you try any 8X.
Still a few bugs in the system...

I'll second Maxell for DVD-R. Not a single coaster yet

  8. I'll second the ProDisc recommendation. I've burned a bunch of the inkjet printables with no problems at all.

  9. What kind of Pioneer writer do you have? There are many pioneer writers. You need to give as much specs as possible.

there is a huge dvd media topic on left column also one for dvd writers that say what to use.

    thx for all the suggestions.

How abt "Verbatim® DataLifePlus DVD-R Media Spindle, 4.7GB" ? Are they any good. Office Deopt send me a coupon code for "Buy one 15 pack get the Second one for free" so for a total of 30 discs $29.97 + free shipping. thatz why i am asking.

Or any other place on the web i can get relaible DVD-R media for a decent price????

Oooooh. By the Way, when i used the dvd identifier to get the DVD media code info for the current media I am using there was no media code. This media i bought it from microcenter brand named 'PLATINUM', some chaepo causing freeze and skip.......

The 104 does well with a lot of discs.

    Even PRINCO sometimes.

    That's a nice burner. Even "only" 2x, it's nice.

  12. Lordsmurf, what is your take on Samsung disks? I've seen them mentioned recently with Japanese 'heritage'. But I don't see them on Nomorecoasters.com

I have had the same experience with Prodisc in my 107D.

Riteks have not been good to me lately.

Heh...about those Prodisc S03...right now at supermedia store, you can get 50 Prodisc 4x DVD-R Silver (or matte etc), for only $24. After shipping, it was still less than $30.

Under $.60 per disc for prodisc s03 is great in my book.

    (The exact code is DVD1x021-050)

Ordered them, and had them in my hand 2 days after they shipped.
