Im trying to convert some monty python episodes i 'obtained' via the net. They are .avi extensions and play fine in Media Player, however, when i try and load them into tmpgenc i get a cannot open or unsupported error. Do I need aplugin or another codec installed?

  4. Maybe there should be a forum called Conversion instead of Authoring so people won't be confused.

Go into the environmental settings of TmpgEnc and bump up the Direct show item to the highest priority. You'll see several items with priorities that range from something like -2 to 2 or 3. Try making the Direct Show item the highest priority (note all the original values first) I forget if I had to close & reopen Tmpg so you might as well restart it. There's also a Mpeg 2 item also I believe. Make that one the 2nd highest priority.

Im sorry for posting in the wrong part of the forum but you seem to be more concerned with that rather than helping me with the conversion. Is it really the end of the world? I have downloaded a load of avi files i would like to convert to mpeg2 to make into a dvd, I added a codec for tmpgenc and it now works. thanks for the help guys.

  9. Stevie, I'm having the same problem. What codec did you add, and where did you find it?
    Thanks.
