I am new to this avi to vcd. I am trying to figure out how to fit a movie onto a blank disc. I have converted avi's to mpeg and they end up around 800 to 850 mb's. I have cut out the credits and even the intro's . I still cant get them under the maximum to make the vcd. Can anyone give me some suggestions or point me in the direction of what I can do to solve this? Thanks ,BD

It just occurred to me that maybe I could cut in half and put it on 2 cd's. Is that what is commonly done? lol. If so what is the easiest way to cut it in half? Thanks, BD

The only way you will fit the movie/clip on one CD (other than by chopping bits out) is to re-encode at a lower bitrate.

Use the bitrate calculator on this site - http://www.vcdhelp.com/calc.htm to work out the correct AVERAGE bitrate to fit on a CD.

Beware of changing bitrates from the standard however as it may cause incompatibilities with some DVD players.

As a quick fix you can cut the video in half and put it onto two CDs.

Bobby, keep in mind, that you can fit up to 800-807 MB (depends on the disk)onto a 80min[700mb] disk.

Reencode @ a lower bitrate to fit it on one XVCD. Not recommended unless you still have access to the source files.

Cut a MPEG with bbMPEG or TMPG.
If you still have access to the source files I recomment to cut the .avi with VirtualDub or Avichop and encode each part seperately (TMPG comes with a nice batch encode mode).
