I ripped a music cd not sure if it was a cd-r or cd-rw for s.o. to play in their car stereo and it wouldn't play. I thought perhaps I might have used the wrong format. Could that be so? I used nerosmart to burn the music to disc in mp3 format. Where could I have gone wrong? By the way it was being played in Jamaica. Should that make any difference. I had only tested it in my dvd player before sending it and it worked fine. Any feedback most welcome. Thanks Clive.

  2. Very few car stereos can play MP3's, period. But some DVD players can these days - I reckon you should have stuck with the good old audio CD myself.

What about if I convert it to another format like wma or ogg would that work in a car-stereo

  4. You should check on the web and see what types of formats your deck plays. Some decks don't play burned discs and most won't play anything other than CD Audio unless specified.

  5. you better buy a new stereo if you want to play compressed audio like mp3's.

You also mentioned an audio cd would do the trick. With a blank cd-r can't that be formatted into an audio cd and then the files added? That's what I thought I was doing when I chose audio on nerosmart, that the cd would first format itself into an audio disk and subsequently add the files.

I'd be very surprised if you found any that would play those formats. Especially car players, as they're usually more limited in what they can handle.

You need to create an audio cd. Windows Media Player can do it , Nero can do it.
You normally see text like 'this creates an audio cd that can be played on most cd players' or something like that .
The final files will probably be .cda files

Great thanks guyz for your quick responses. From what I gather it seems then pretty unlikely that I will be able to play it on a a car-stereo but just on a walkman, be it in Jamaica or timbuck2 and be it whether I convert the disk into an audio one using nero or some other tool. Well thanks anyway

I'm not quite sure of your wording but YES you can create a CD to play in a car stereo but it has to be in the format of a normal audio cd and NOT in a very compressed format such as mp3 or ogg or wma.

I have seen car stereos which will play mp3 cds but they are fairly uncommon at the moment and they clearly say mp3 on the front of them.

  12. A .wav file will play in most car CD players. When using a .wav file, I can get between 15 and 20 songs on a CD.

I rip my audio CDs using Exact Audio Copy in secure mode. Then I burn with Roxio at 2x.

Try sticking an original disc in your cd drive and have a look what the file extensions are.

  14. Most authoring applications (and even some rippers and even OS's these days) have a Audio CD template - you don't get much more basic than this, so I'm sure you'll have one.

In most cases, you just drag the WAV files (in 44.1KHz 16 bit stereo) into the project and that will be it. If it is any other format, either expect it not to work, or for the authoring program to go off and convert it. The less conversions you can do, especially with compressed formats like MP3, the better.

  16. jeez...how hard can it be...
    in NERO.
    pick "Audio cd".
    stick in original.
let it copy to hard drive.
    then place in blank cd.
    let it copy.
remove cd and play in car cd player.

for a car cd player to play mp3 OGG etc,it would have to be an "mp3 cd car stereo."

Just to let all you guyz now that I've had the feedback that it has worked through the car-stereo.

What I did, was rip it with mp3ripper onto my hard drive and then selected the Audio icon from Nero and burned it onto a cd-r The format I chose to rip to was mp3. Maybe I was just lucky! Thanks guyz for all your help and feedback it means alot

That's very confusing , you ripped 'what' with mp3 ripper ? What was your source ?
You chose to rip to mp3 you wrote this after using Nero , does that mean you chose to create an Audio mp3 disc with Nero ?

  19. Sounds like he ripped the CD to mp3, then let Nero recode the MP3 to Wav for Audio CD. Will cause quality loss, so dont go via MP3 next time.
Btw, many Pioneers can play both WMA and MP3. Sad to say mine doesnt, very old model, still lucky that Pioneers are the best for burned CDRs. Pioneers just refuse to get old and stop working.

  20. ^^gotta agree there.
my pioneer in my car has been running for about 2 1/2 years now,and wont break.it plays all cdrs ive tried, and doesnt skip, whereas the sony that came in my dads car,is a POS,stuttering etc.
so thats my plan of getting an mp3 stereo in my car as the wife uses it too,and if anyone should have broken it,she would have, but unfortualty, pioneer saw fit to make it of kryptonite,or titanium or something wife-proof!!...arrghh. 8)

andyp1 You asked what I ripped. I ripped using mp3ripper the music I wanted to copy to the hard drive then burned it with Nero selecting the the Audio icon. I couldn't tell you what format it encoded to before burning thor all I know was press Nerosmart Audio icon and let it burn itself. It could have done it in wav if that is the format for audio.

  25. Ok lingoguysw5, next time rip it to WAV to have a 100% lossless Audio CD copy. For the rest of your process, no need to change anything, as long as it works for you.

Oh the Source YES it was a Music CD I was rippingto the HD and then burning with nero audio to a blank c. Well at the end of the day as I say it works in the car stereo that's the main thing

But next time thor300 I will rip to wav since that has more chance of playing in most devices.

If it was an original music CD all you needed to do was a straight 'copy disc' with nero . That's it!
You don't need to use any other software , you seem to be making it very difficult for yourself.

Oh I thought copying originals on here was a taboo subject because of copyright but yes andyp1 it was an original. As I only have the 1 disk drive I would inevitably have to copy ithe music first to my HD anyway, which I believed thatI might had tried and it didn't work that is why I sought this option. Perhaps I was mistaken But andyp1 I will certainly take it into account next time mate cheers Happy Euro 2004 and England behaves herself for the rest of the matches

Copying originals isn't taboo here. That's perfectly acceptable behavior if you're using them as backups. What's taboo is downloading them, among other things. Check the rules link at the top for all the no-nos here
