    marni33tas,

Unless there is a smoker in house or you live in a dusty enviroment there is little need to clean these lenses or ever touch them.

If you really feel the need - use a soft cotton swab moistened with a little isopropyl alcohol. Very gently wipe the lens. Do not place so much pressure on the lens that you move it.

If the unit is so dirty that you can see the dirt then return it to the maker for cleaning.

If it is non-working, sure, what have you got to lose? But most any 'cleaner' would pose some risk of damage. Normally a laser lens doesn't need cleaning unless you are a heavy smoker or have a lot of enviromental pollution. I would first try some 'canned air' type cleaner and see what it does. If that fails, go ahead, try a cleaning disc.
