  1. you may have noticed that when trying to download a cover at cdcovers.cc now you get a popup to install coverzip software in order to view the covers. Thats is completely false. All installing that does is put a bunch of spyware and adware on your PC. if you keep clicking no then it eventually stops and you can view the cover as normal. the coverzip program has absolutely no effect on viewing the covers. its just marketing junk.

    I never see it.

Adaware and a pop-up stopper do there job well.

  5. its not an actual pop-up its an install on demand dialog. Its no longer doing it today though. Maybe some people got irritated with it. A couple site they link to for Audio covers still have it in place though.

I think the author is working on other plugins to enable you to search other sites. And it appears to be spyware free, which is nice.

On the subject of popups, i used to work for a bank and i had this woman come in asking about high interest accounts.
so i was telling her all about them when she told me she just won £500,000, she was all exited i was congratulating her and asked how she won it? she said, i kid you not this is true
"oh my husband was on the internet when he got a message from a site saying we were the 1000000th visitor and we had won £500,000!"
the poor old deer and her husband clicked on all the links followed it through and then gave her bank account card numbers.
i asked why did they need that? she told me "oh they needed £50 to cover the costs of transfering the money"
i didnt know whether to laugh or cry for this poor woman, i spent the next hour explaining to her about pop ups and scams.
we had to close her accounts and open her a newone the poor thing didnt beleve me untill she burst out crying.
i just couldnt beleve people still fall for these popups

I currently work for a bank and we are also all too familiar with most scams going around such as the one described above. While I'm sure many people will have a chuckle over this and call her a dumbass, it is becoming increasingly popular for these scammers.

In australia alone, the last year or so there have been numerous emails posing to be from financial isntitutions in an attempt to get a user to log in to Internet Banking to "validate" their detials because something had changed. These emails contained links to a bogus website that looks exactly the same as the financial institution's real one. Time and time again we stress to our account holders that we will never ask them to disclose their password to us - we'll reset it if we need to access their login for whatever reason.

I guess as computers become more and more affordable and/or a necessity in the workplace, this behaviour both by scammers and "uninformed" users is only going to increase. They have the money to buy a system but don't have any "net-smarts" so to speak. I can almost draw parallels between this sort of thing and DVD noobs we see here all the time. Things have definitely changed from a couple of years ago when you had a computer because you wanted one and were prepared to learn (probably because of the cash you had invested in it), as opposed to needing one like you do now.

Back to the subject at hand, I'm gathering Poppa_Meth that you found out the hard way that the coverzip software was a crock ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

I tried it. It just doesn't get the results that are available from the site. For example, I'll type in "50" (as in 50 First Dates), and it will give no hits, while a search on cdcovers.cc will give me a few. I've tried several other titles, and get the same. A quick look at their forum, and it appears that you have to type in a "magic combo" for best results (but even that doesn't work). Try "One" (as in The One with Jet Li) to see what I'm talking about.

  12. I found out the hard way because someone at work let it install when they were looking up a cover. I spent an hour rolling back the system and running spybot to get rid of the garbage.

Some people do not deserve internet privileges IMO.

  15. Thanks for the link, nice little program very fast and handy. It would be great if it worked with other sites like Daprogger who has higher quality stuff.

    Thanks

Cholerabob > Is it possible to post that link on my site? I have nearly finished the auto-update feature. So next thing I'll be working on are some plug-ins for other sites...

steveryan > Please submit any bugs you might encounter! If you post them here or there, I cannot check it you see .

Supreme2k > That is because of the ?buggy? search function of CDCovers.cc... If you search for "50" at CDCovers.cc you will get no results as well...

Dr. Gee > no spyware will ever enter one of my programs! Spyware is evil!!
