Can you guys help me settle an argument? I have always maintained that it is better to read data off a disc at the lowest possible speed, and to write data at the lowest possible speed, regardless of "Buffer underrun" protection to ensure a good quality copy.

I don't think you will settle that argument anytime soon. It rather depends on your DVD ROM and DVD W/RW. Some read better at their 'rated' speed or at least read no better at a lower speed. Burning is much the same. If you need to burn at a lower speed, then there may be something wrong with the burner or the burning software. Just my opinion.
