  1. hi.

I burn a lot of dvds everyday and now, for no reason whatsoever Nero started producing coasters. It displays all sorts of errors from being unable to read the source disk to power calibration failures.

I formatted my HD and reinstalled XP and a new downloaded version of Nero. worked ok for two days and then all the same...

I burn using a clean partition with only XP, decryption tools ans Nero. I don't have internet access on that partition also so I can't figure out what the problem is. DMA settings ok ... well no clue..

I bought new hardware and all the same.

Can anyone tell me what I can be doing wrong?...

    thanks 4 ur hlp

  3. Been having similar problems but with Dvd Decrypter. Nero burns fine every time but lately dvd decrypter just produces coaster after coaster. 3.2.0.0 or 3.2.1.0. Using a LiteOn 411@811.

  6. Calibration errors could mean your writer is reaching the end of its life. I have never had this problem on a DVD recorder, but have had 2 CD writers die, always preceeded by calibration errors.

It seems the laser uses a calibration area on the disk to adjust the laser strength for the disk used (you can see the area on a cd, it is a very narrow band about 1/64" wide or less, between the hub and the burn area . When it is unable to reach the level needed you will get calibration errors. The worst thing is that when the calibration area has been used up, the disk can't be burned on anything else. On CD is says 'calibration area is full'. it is then a coaster. I would guess DVD works the same way. If you are lucky, you may just have media that requires too much laser power.

On my CD recorders, I found that by switching to other media (requiring less laser power I suppose) I was able to get burns but, eventually, they too will begin giving calibration errors.
If it works, don't fix it.

Just to contradict almost everyone in this thread, I have always burned with Nero and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. I received power calibration errors on my Pioneer 104 and it was because of the media. I now use Princo printables with no problems whatsoever on my Pioneer 106 & 107. Just lucky I guess
    If in doubt, Google it.
