  1. hey

okay, so i really want to see a film that is available only in PAL format, and i do not have an all region dvd player, nor a dvd burner on my computer...so here is my question. would it be possible to rip the PAL dvd onto my computer, even though it is in PAL format? then, would i be able to take what i rip and burn it to CD-Rs that will play in my american dvd player? I have ripped dvds before and burned them to work in my player, but never a PAL dvd. This question has probably been asked before, so i apologize if it has, i tried doing a forum search but there are so many variations on this sort of topic i decided to just explain my situation. if there is a previous thread going over how to do this, just a link would work for me. either way, any help is greatly appreciated.

    thanks

I think you are going to have do a PAL-->NTSC conversion - not pretty at all.

There are a few guides here.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Most newer ntsc dvd players can play pal vcd so just encode to pal vcd and burn to rewritable to check,i have a 2 year old ntsc apex dvd player that plays pal vcd.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

This is also true for my Pioneer 434. It can't play PAL DVDs properly, but it is okay for PAL VCDs. Why is that?

Lots of pal dvds are anamorphic and older ntsc dvd players will play the dvd in full screen(stretched) where as pal vcd is in 4:3 and wont be stretched.
