Just curious.I just got a Dvd burner a few days ago,the i/o magic 4xdual format. So far it works with Memorex Dvd+r and Dvd-r perfectly.I bought some generic ones and it doesn't work at all with them.Decided to pick up some Princo Dvd-r's and they are workling flawlessly so far.

Media code will tell you what dye is used to make the dvd so if its an-2x or princo or 001 then you know its crap where as mxlrg01/2 and tyg01 and to a lesser extent ricoh are the better brands.
I think,therefore i am a hamster. -
Is there a place I can go to see the different dyes and which ones are the best?

http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm is a good place to visit and dvdinfopro is a good program to identify the media code of a dvd you have.

wtf is Yi Jhan 001, never heard of it!
according to other ppl's exp. on the media list it sure looks crappy.
i would stay away from generic stuff that u get @ CrapUSA. stick to brands like Maxell, even TDKs are turning out to be crappy these days (who'd a thunk it!)! and of course TY is good, which is like its own brand and media code. maxell somethimes uses TY. i would also stay away from memorex cuz they tend to have the highest % of CMCs (crap), it seems. if u can find RICOHJPNs (+), they are also high quality media.

I bought some Memorex DVD-R's (Prodisc S03's) when I first got my TDK drive 6 months ago.... most are all working great and all burned 100% BUT on several times I have had occasional DVD Player lockups and skips.
Now Fuji's and other Maxell disks I have have all burned 100% and I have experienced no skipping at all.
So media is important. They all seem to burn good... but playback will always be an issue. -
i did a scan on error on 5 of my Yi Jhan 001 DVD and none of it have find any error.
