  1. I'm putting together a 45min movie. What software gets the best quality to convert a DV movie to DVD? I have Pinnacle studio 8.10 and I know that can make DVD/Mpeg2 files, but is that any good? I don't have a dvd burner yet but could get one eaisily enough.

Also I don't have a very good computer, just a 700mhz Atholon, 128 ram. Any Idea how long a conversion would take for 45 minutes?

And is it even possible for me to convert with a different program other than Pinnacle studio 8 if I used that to edit it? I'm sure the movie would be over the 4GB avi limit.

    Thanks.

first, it helps if you fill out your computer details. second, upgrade to NTFS to overcome the 4gig barrier. third, output to DV from pinnacle studio. fourth either TMPGenc or CCE lite are inexpensive MPEG options.

for 45 mins of material a CBR encode will be about 12 hours on your system using TMPGenc, about 6 with CCE.

2000 and XP bot support fat32 and NTFS. you choose which you want when you install your OS.

  5. Are there any disadvatages to using NTFS as opposed to Fat32? Other wise why wouldn't all systems be on NTFS?

Say, if I went out and bought XP would I have to format my drives or will it install itself without affecting anything else on the computer? I just don't want to loose what I've got.

Also Do you know what the reccamended specs are for XP? I have a 700mzh (Athlon) compaq persario with 128MB Ram and 32MB All in one Radeon video card. Will it work on that or do I need to upgrade?

    Thanks

If your going to be working w/ DV footage you will need an NTFS drive so you can have over 4gb files. If you install XP and change to NTFS it will wipe your drives to change from fat32 to ntfs. XP needs 128mb ram at minimum, I would recommend 512mb at least. XP will run on your system but it will probably be slow.

  7. If I bought a new computer would it come standard with NTFS or Fat32?

What specs would you recammend if I was to buy a new computer to be used for Pro Video Editing, Pro Audio Editing, & Making DVD's to be sent out for duplication?

And when I say specs, I mean anything you can think of. Assume I don't know much about differences in all the types of ram, speed, catch, Brand, +- Recorders. Because for the most part I haven't been able to keep up with whats superior in the Computer world lately.

I don't think I will need a monitor or printer because I'm fine with the ones I've already got.

    Thank you.
