Hi everybody,
forgive me for probably asking a stupid question but i cant figure it out.
i being recording some guides with fraps and i want them to be HD so since Vdub was not working for that i switched to Vegas.
At the moment i am always using MP4 to render.
But honestly even though i can do it with my connection, the file sizes tend to be rediculous.
6.5Gb for a 35min recording.
Are there other options which have a smaller size, like perhaps Sony AVC/MVC mp4?
The only thing is it needs to be 1080HD, which will never make it a small file of course.
But even if its a small difference it would be nice.
Thanks

filesize = time(in seconds) x bitrate. so to make smaller size files no matter what the encoder, decrease the bitrate. the sony avc encoder is fine for mp4 video if you want to try it.

alright thanks, so i be wanting to mess around with the bitrate a bit.
And find a balance between the quality and file size.
Is there any rule when it comes to 1080 and 720? Like what the bare minimum is for bitrate. -
no hard and fast rules it depends on the type of motion and how much is in the video. start 720p around 4-5mbps and 1080 7-8mpps and see how it looks to you. lowering bitrate also lowers visual quality so you need to find the acceptable balance.

That looks pretty good, might try that.
Went from 720p to 1080p because i had trouble getting clear text in the vids.
