BENQ DW822A 8X +/-RW Cannot format Imation -RW media

I bought the BENQ DW822A several weeks ago and my purchase decision was swayed by the promise that it can be upgraded to a Double Layer via firmware upgrade on September 30th. I did +RW and -RW test with Imation media. The +RW works fine. But for the -RW media, it had problem ready during from with InCD. It complained dirty or scratch media. I am sure this was not the case as the media is brand new. My system is XP2500+,512K RAM, Win98SE, and NERO InCD.

I brought the drive back to BENQ customer service and they comfirmed that there is a compatiblity issue. That's a big surprise to me ! They told me that they get back to me. I would like to know if anyone is facing the same problem. Is there any solution to this problem. Thanks.

I got a respond from Benq customer support. The root cause of the problem is that the Imation that I used was of version 1. The drive has incompatibility issue with Imation Version 1.0 media. I was also advised to avoid Sony media by the tech support.
