capturing mpeg 1 without encoding

hi i want to capture on my computer some songs from analogue sourses like vcr directly as mpeg1 file then to record it to a disc vcd formatt without encoding
i have the ATI all in wonder but i am facing many problems with the sound like ditortion etc does anybody knows another card that will do the job less then $300
i have on another pc the pinnacle dv500 dvd but it records as avi then i have to encode the file to make it mpeg this a wasting of time
i am not so much interressted in the picture quality
any help

For the ATI, I would check out lord smurfs site,http://digitalfaq.com/. For the Pinnacle, you may be able to use the Mainconcept encoder. If it will work with your capture card, you could go straight to MPEG1 in close to 'real time'.

hi thanks for ur help , but the ati card is causing me many problem, do u think there is another brand that causes less problem ?
