  1. I'm located in Montreal, Canada.
I recently bought a new Philips DVP642 at Radio Shack.
For Christmas I got 2 original DVD's from Finland in DVD9 format.
One of the films worked great on my DVD. The other film works fine until the menu where you select to watch the film and won't go further from there.
Funny thing is that both DVD´s work fine on my computer.

Could anyone help me locate the problem ?
    Anyone had similat problems ?

  6. Region is global (1-6) on both DVD's.
    PAL version.
One DVD works fine on both the Philips and my PC while the other works fine only on my PC and won't go further than the selection menu on the Philips.
I also double checked with a friend of mine who has the same DVD player and same thing there, one works fine and the other won't go further than the menu.

  8. I got two different PAL DVD9 films from Finland with Global region code.
One works great with the Philips and the other only works until the menu but I can watch both with my PC DVD player without a slightest problem.
Would love to have the other one working on the Philips as well...

  10. It is probably not region-related because you can get to the film menu, but can't play the film. Usually region protection would make it that the disc wouldn't load in the first place, so it must be something else.

By the way, I bought a philips DVD615 a couple of years ago. There were 2 DVD's that wouldn't play on it (wouldn't load). I gave one away to a guy who had an LG and he said it worked fine on his. The other I kept. The DVD wouldn't play on my standalone (DVD615), it wouldn't play on my notebook, and it wouldn't play on my desktop. Well, surprise, it now plays on the DVP642. It's strange how that happens.

Like the previous poster said, I would make a copy of your DVD to DVDr using something like DVDshrink (if you have a DVD burner) or make an .avi copy using AutoGk and DVD decrypter.

    Available from http://www.doom9.org/

Then you should be able to watch it on your TV using the DVP642

  11. Certain titles don't play on certain players.

Like others have been saying, I would also make a DVD9 or DVD5 copy of it and see if it plays.
