you probably only have dts audio on the dvd. some computer programs can play it, others will not. the ps2 will recognize dts audio, but you need to have a dts receiver hooked up to the optical port on the back of the ps2. if you just have the ps2 audio going to your tv speakers, you wont have any audio. you need to re-do the dvd, and keep the ac3 audio or 2ch stereo audio.

Thanks You. Let me ask you this if i only have the Video_ts file is there a tool that I can use to do it. Or do I need to start from the source...Thanks again

I want to thank everyone for there help. I guess I've realized that I need to seperate the audio from a dts dvd format and convert to ac3 to hear on my stand alone or playstation. All i have is the Video_ts files can someone steer me on what tools to use and how to accomplish this someone mentioned demuxing in Tmpgence ????

im not sure if it can be done. the only way i know of doing it is to have the original dvd, use dvd shrink and take out the dts audio, leaving the audio that you want. like i said, i dont know if you can convert dts to ac3, maybe someone else will know

just rip the move you want with dvd decrypter(free).
then convert with dvd shrink,or dvd2one.
then copy it with nero or preferebly copytodvd.
but when you convert it,just take the dolby5.1 or 5.1 AC3 audio,or 2 channel audio.
it sounds like you dont have the capability to play back DTS soundtracks. -
Ok since I don't have the source to rip and only the Video_ts files I went and got a reciever with optical input and dts and still no sound !!! Again the only thing that will play this with audio is Power DVD....How can I determine what audio source is embedded in my Vob files ???????? i know somethings there cause it will play. Thanks

If it won't play at all when your receiver is compatible with DTS and Dolby, there are a few things you can try:
1) Check your PS2's setup menu and make certain the digital output settings are correct. A lot of people complain their discs are silent when in reality they just don't have Dolby or DTS output enabled. PS2s and X-Boxes have this turned off by default.
2) Check the soundtracks are actually DTS or DD. They might be MPEG. MPEG often causes problems like this, due to being a dead format.
3) Make sure your cable is working.
4) Make sure your receiver is set to the right input. Mine features both optical and coaxial inputs, and switching between the two can be a bit tricky."It's getting to the point now when I'm with you, I no longer want to have something stuck in my eye..." -
Ok so heres the scenario The reciever doesn't mention dts but it does have an optical input and has a dolby digital input setting a dolby pro logic 2 setting the dolby digital setting is a 5.1 or 6 channel input. I selected show information as steve suggested and it says I'm playing DTS 5.1 768Kbps I've got the opti cable running from dvd to reciever svid out of reciever to tv...Reciever is on digital dolby????? No sound Where can i find the ps2 setup and I'll try that instead of dvd. Thanks

Ok checked cables played another dvd through dolby digital everythings working ...but when I try to play that dvd the reciever is saying that the audio signal is either too weak or non existant is it possible that the Kbps has something to do with it not being recognized ???? Something about it is making everything but power dvd not hear it
-
It's very simple - no DTS logo in the manuals, on the receiver, or on the box means NO DTS COMPATIBILITY!
"It's getting to the point now when I'm with you, I no longer want to have something stuck in my eye..." -
yep, unless it says it does, the receiver doesnt decode dts audio. if i were you, i wouldnt have gone out and bought a receiver just to play one dvd. i would have gotten ahold of the original dvd and redo it with the right audio.
on the ps2, hit the select button to bring up the menu while playing a dvd. there will be three rows of buttons i beleive, the setup option is in the middle row to the right. hit setup and then go to the audio menu and make sure the optical out port is on.
