  1. I am totally a newbie in capturing. I am looking to buy my first capture card but have know idea where I should start, what I have to consider, etc. Where is the best place to find out about capturing card, procedure, etc.?

At the moment my main purpose of getting a capturing card is to convert my VHS to avi files, but I might like to capture tv program in the future. Please recommend me some capture cards.

    Thanks.

  4. I am a newbie and purchased a PVR 350 Hauppage.

You can scart a VCR or sat straight to it and it is easy to convert to DVD format then.

It uses less of the CPU than other cards because of the onboard converter (or so I've read)

It also has a lot of other functions but depending on your budget this is a great card to own.

Read the captures guides at www.digitalFAQ.com to get you started. Read the top 4 of them in that section.

Then either read more there or come back here and read more guides about your exact card.

  7. PS--

    Dearest Smurf Lord,
You talk about the merits of the AIW cards so I'm convinced.....I see an 8500DV?...a 9000? (both of those capture)....and some others for sale on Ebay.

You made up my mind...I want an AIW but would like to know....

I want to ignore macrovision on VHS tapes, so with this card will I need a Sima SCC box or can I do it with a driver for the card?

If I need to get the Sima and that's the best all around approach....so be it.

    THANKS.
