OK, I have a Sony 500A that I'm about to DUMP! I'll be replacing it with either Plextor PX-712A (140.00) nec 2500 ( or whichever model that will do 8x on dvd+r-r) or Optorite 12X DVD+/-RW Drive IDE/ATAPI, Model DD1203. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=51069&item=5102572536&rd=1
All I'm asking is for the owners of the mentioned drives or those who know the mentioned drives to give me media information and drive/firmware information that will allow a 8x and 12x burn with dvd+r and 4x and 8x with dvd-r
For example: If you own a Plextor 712A and have achieved a 12x and 8x burn with DVD+r, please give me the brand of media, label information, media code and anything of that sort so that all I would have to do is shop for media with the given info.
I was also wondering if anyone owns the optorite drive that I mentioned. If you click on the link, you'll see that it claims to do pretty much what the Plextor 712A claims to do for a cheaper price. If you own the mentioned optorite, or know of the mentioned optorite drive, please let me know if there claim is true; I'm really leaning towards that drive if everything is legit.
Post like this one, often cause friction between owners of the respective drives. Please, the purpose of this post is not for plextor owners to bash nec owners (which I've seen a lot of) or vice versa. The sole purpose of this post is to gather information from those who have achieved results that the product is said to be able to achieve, thats all.
Once again, no drive bashing; That won't help me at all.
PS. I often watch movies on PS2, so dvd-r results at 4x and 8x will be appreciated.
Thanks to all that reply; my decision will be greatly influenced by your response to the requested info.

I prefer LG's myself.
My question for people like you is:
"What is your freaking hurry?"
