ebay is not dying off overall... mol may be reffering to a particular type of product is dying off in popularity on ebay.... that's what happens when the market (ebay) is flooded with the same item from many sellers, or the items you are trying to sell just are not wanted by anybody...

what type of products are you selling? (general category)

eBay is by no means "dying off". And even if it is, there are no alternatives with greater numbers of auctions or sales. Possibly, what those people meant is a trend I have noticed over the years with eBay. I have been signed up since early 1999.

Back then, there was no "buy it now" option. And although mass sellers were already present, they still hadn't taken hold as they have now. The eBay of old was famous for antiques and used things and like stuff you could find in an attic that people just put on auction not knowing what it is.

By now, most people who use eBay have already sold their interesting stuff, so most of eBay auctions are now run by stores or wholesalers who sell new products. For example, type in sunglasses and you do get a percentage of used sunglasses but mostly, you get the same seller's buy it now $6.99 sunglasses in different colors. Same with any other product. eBay has become a kind of store front for many companies, ruining its charm, and making it harder to find something good.

The biggest problem I have found with eBay recently is that buying most anything there is a RIPOFF. Stores always charge a few bucks extra on eBay then they do at their own online store. This goes for DVDRs, burners, sunglasses and everything else.

I have sold many things on eBay but have done so by listing a decent price. Afterwards, eBay and PayPal both take a chunk of what little profit you had so I can understand sellers overcharging.

ebay is the way to go
    it supports my addictive habits

seriously in no way is it dying off, in fact any new online bidding company would have a hard time becuse of the popularity/success of ebay
or i bet if you looked really hard you would see that they too are owned by eBay

Here are other bid sites. Not really clones, but nowhere near as good as eBay.

    Bidz.com
    UBID.com
    BidOutlet.com
    AuctionAddict.com
    Auction-Warehouse.com
    Liquidation.Com

I have accounts on all of them, but I've only bought from them, except for liquidation.com. My company used them to sell a huge lot of computer peripherals, and got a decent price for them. They didn't have the time and didn't want to go through & separate everything, so they just sold it as one big lot.

  10. For convenience, I use Ebay's sister site, half.com to buy stuff - the price is set by the seller and you don't have to deal with bidders jacking the price up.

Only thing I use Ebay for is to look for extremly rare stuff (movie or music related) that is either long out of print or bootlegs (stuff the MPAA and RIAA have no control over and is of very little market value...to them)

For Alternative Auction sites, try Yahoo and Amazon - you'll reach a lot of people through any of these sites.

And if you don't want to share a precentage of your profits, you can always sell your stuff direct through Usenet - try the marketplace groups or groups that relate to what you're selling...you can also put up a site of your own to sell stuff and link it through usenet, Yahoo Groups, webrings, etc
