  1. I have followed the following guide to compile an audio DVD which plays fine on my computer using PowerDVD but on my Pioneer DV-444 it plays the first 6 secs of song (displaying random green squares) then the DVD just stops, doesnt even return to menu, I have to press menu on the remote to get out of the "hung" state.

The guide I used is this one (possibly loosely)

    http://www.dvdr-digest.com/articles/32_1.html

I am using Tmpgenc 2.5. I use my audio wav file (a complete CD) to generate an mPEG1 stream. I demux the video stream (the bit I need which is all black) and throw away the MP2 stream because I convert the WAV to AC3 (sounds better on my setup).

The tmpgenc settings are as follows
    MPG1, 352x288 25fps CBR 50kbps MP2 48khz 384kbps

I had to up the video bitrate as DVDMaestro complained it was too low. I tried using DVD Workshop 2 but it consistently crashes when I add the AC3 stream to the video, I have noticed this even with regular video streams. I would be interested to know if anyone else has had this problem.

So any ideas why the DVD player crashes ?[/url]

yep, tried those. Not impressed ...

My audio DVD has a menu with each album I can see. Choosing one takes me to a new menu of the titles on that CD. I also have a subtitle on each track so you can see what track is playing.

DVD+Audio doesn't support AC3, just MP2. It may be just my ears but stereo MP2 on my system sounds PANTS !

Audio DVD Creator lumps all CDs into one big chapter list much like DVD+Audio whereas I have individual title sets PER CD. So CD 1 is a Title set with 10 Chapters in it, title set 2 the next CD has 15 Chapters in it etc ...

    tobyed2,
What software you use to do the conversion to AC3 ? Some Pioneer doesn't play AC3 files converted using Besweet.
I had this problem with regular DVDs i created. Then i tried SoftEncode, it started working.

  5. I am using SoftEncode. Bit lazy, just loading in the wav for each channel, the rear is a -3db. Sounds pretty good.

  6. try fixing the ac3 file before your author,

run it through bslice or ac3 fix,

this helped me with some videos that where freezing in my dvd player

  7. Ahhh, all is now clear ...

My DVD player seems a bit picky as to bitrate of the video.

A video stream of 1150 MPG1 plays fine. Anything below 1150 (even 1149) DVD player "hangs".

So with some file comparisons the smallest I can produce is a MPG2 VBR 3000 bit rate max 9346, file size 2,806 kb, 5 mins long.

Didnt realise my player was so picky.
