  1. Here is my problem, i'll try to make it short. I have an Aopen 8X8 8800 drive. When i first got it, i had some verbatim digital movie -r & +r discs. The -r discs would burn around 7.5X, the +r around 6X. So i was kinda happy with the drive. I bought some Memorex 4X -r and they burned at 4X, no big deal. I recently bought some Ritek G05 8X (-r) and some Prodisc 8X (+r) discs. DVD Identifier identifies them as 8X discs. The problem is I can only get them to burn a 4X. I am usuing a number of programs to burn with. I am using the lastes version of CopyToDVD (trial version) and ImageToolBurn (nero 5.5.X & 6.X.X) as the burning engines. Is it my drive that won't recognize the 8X or the software. When i got to burn with CopyToDVD, i set it for 8X and it says in the details, Burn Speed 8X, Effective 4X. And it only burns at 4X. Any suggestions or help?? Sorry for the long question, just getting a little frustraded with the whole thing.]

It could still be possible that the drive maker hasn't added those discs to the firmware. You may want to contact the tech people @ AOpen and let them know the DVD-Identifier string so they could help you out and either add them or let you know what's up.

  5. You could just order disks that are known to do 8x on your writer. But since you did 7.5x, why did you change media?

  6. I switched media cause verbatims are expensive. I got the G05's and the prodisc 8X for $1 a disc pretty much. Plus i figured i'd try something new.
