  1. In case any one is interested.

    According to a tech support person at Sima the Scc-2:

    "Does not use time base correction"

  2. I have one of these units and it works great!
    I Believe it works like a frame sync. It strips off the sync pulse, where macrovision lives, and then applies a new sync pulse.
    There are some other crude units that does this but the SCC-2 is great because it does that well AND has handles for brightness, contrast, red, green, blue and sharpeness (like a TBC)

  3. Well it is obvious from yoru explanation that you know a lot more than I do about this stuff!

    Anyway, there had been rumors this thing used TBC and I thought I would let folks know.

    Sounds like it does the same thing anyway!

    Thanks,
    Bob

    I own one of these units also... When I use it INLINE with a prime-image TBC the results are excellent from degraded VHS originals...

    You mean inline as in between your dvd recorder and a quality VCR with TBC? please explain further.

    I've been thinking about picking one of these up, but I've heard mixed things about it. Some say it degrades the picture as much as it helps.

    Also, have you done any PAL to NTSC or vise-versa conversions with it? Supposedly, this updated model has that ability.

    thanks.

    It definately does not degrade the source IMHO.... of course you can dial any of the settings up/down too much and mess up the picture that way...

    Nevertheless, I don't use it all the time but when dealing with macrovision it has defeated everything I've thrown at it (which is not alot)... I've also found that it can be useful as a "pre-filter" inline between the deck and the TBC if I have color/brightness/contrast problems with old vhs footage. In my case "inline" (s-video) means:

    HS-U748 (mitsubishi vhs deck) -> SCC-2 -> prime-image TBC -> JVC SR-VS30U (or advc-100)
