The following is the problem I am having. I live in Melbourne with many highrise buildings around me. TV reception is very poor using standard analogue receivers, so I use a SD Digital Set Top Box. I needed a new VCR so I ended up purchasing the Panasonic DMR-E60 DVR Recorder instead. Now here is the problem!
1. I can record TV using its own Built in tuner, but reception is very poor.
2. Reception is perfect using the SD Digital Set Top Box, but I can't record from it, because the DMR-E60 detects the material is copyrighted![]()
I am assuming it is simply detecting Macrovision. Is there any way around this or any better solutions?
Thanks
Amelia

It is odd that it is detection copy protection from the SD Digital Set Top Box. My understanding of how things work tells me that this should not be the case.
What type of connection do you have between the SD Digital Set Top Box and the Panny DVD-R recorder?
Is there maybe another connection method you can try?
Does this happen with all channels or only certain channels ... or perhaps only on "special events" like Pay Per View items?
The best fool proof way of defeating any form of copy protection is to use the analog outputs of your box (like composite or S-Video) and run it through a TBC device before inputting to the Panny DVD-R recorder.
Only probelm there ... such TBC devices are rather expensive. Here in the USA there are only two models that I know of and one is about $200 and the other is about $300

Hi John,
It's currently connected using using composite and with the Set Top Box I am viewing free to air TV so it really shouldn't be a problem.
Can Macrovision be detected through S-Video?
Thanks

Perhaps things are different where you are.

Thanks John,
I may try another Set Top Box. This issue is a real pain
I can't believe I had to post a support issue about recording from TV, now that's sad
Thanks

The thing with macro boxes is that there is more than one kind of macrovision. I would contact your tv cable company & ask them what to do they might have a better cable box.

So I would look into other options first such as a different set top box perhaps.

"FulciLives" Will the DataVideo TBC-1000 keep the closed caption Subtitle's. I have the www.facetvideo.com to remove macrovision but is also remove's the closed caption subtiltes. I also have the sima Video copy master does the same thing remove's the closed caption subtitle's.
