  1. Hi, can anyone recommend a tool to cut and join VOB files? I have a DVD featuring 6 programmes, the problem is the beginning of the second episode is on the last 15 or so seconds of the VOB file for the first episode. I would like to cut and join so I have a comlete file for each episode. Are all retail DVD's made like this?, sorry if this is a stupid request.

    Thanks.

You can use TMPGEnc DVD Author to edit out what you want and to
    re-author the dvd

VOBs have a maximum size of 1.something GB so DVDs divide the whole mpeg into those 1GB chunks as part of their file structure. If you want each episode as a single MPEG file, you would need to rip the DVD with a program like 0SeX and take out the specific chapters you want for that episode. 0seX will extract them as single mpegs. It's kind of a hassle, though. Is there any specific reason why you feel the need to do this?
Go off and rule the universe from beyond the grave. Or check into a psycho ward, whichever comes first, eh?

vobs are really mpeg files with several audio and subtitles
demux the .vob and you will get .m2v and your audio usually .ac3

remux so that your new mpeg only has one video and one audio stream

now you can begin to cut/join these to other similar mpegs

mpgtxwrap is a splitter/joiner you can use

it can split by number, file size, min markers etc
but there is no visualization so you would have to know the min markers to cut at.
