  1. Help me please. I`ve seen a lot of movies and i can say that the best codec is XVID. But it seems to me rather hard to set it . I need some settings that shoud work on any action movie with lower bitrates on XVID like 700 kb. Are there some standard settings for that ?

  2. It depends which build you have whether it's Koepis or Nic's. For Koepi's, the link is here http://www.divx-digest.com/articles/xvid_setup.html

Bitrate and resolution are related. Don't forget Audio (especially if it's AC5.1). If you want "DVD Quality" then your XviD file is going to be 1/2 to 1/3 the size of the original MPEG video, Audio doesn't change. This roughly translates into 700 MB/hour of movie as a ballpark, at 640x480(which is 100% the same as 720x480 on a TV which hs 8:9 pixels instead of 1:1 on a monitor) 23.97 fps Progressive encode.

  4. I`ve got a new movie ! It`s exactly like a DVD ! Made with XVID (i have the 1,0 FINAL RELEASE from mai9-2004) i don`t know who did it. Dimensions are about 570/305. Bitrate about 700 Kb. Sound at 128Kb mp3. The movie is about 700 Mb and 2 hours !!!! Quality is superb!!! No blocks on fast movements!!! No blocks on explosions! Extraordinary details !!!! Never seen somthing like this with DIVX...
I wonder what settings did the guy used ...

  5. Most likely he used 2 or 3 B-Vobs, bvop sensitivity at 1, trellis qunatiszation, h263 resize, chroma motion, maybe q-pel... but it is true that XviD looks sharper than does DivX (usually good, rarely bad).

Yours and my idea of good quality must be vastly different. I've never seen a two hour 700mb XviD movie that I would characterize as being good.
