  3. I've never used the HP but out of choice I both use and recommend Pioneer exclusively since their media compatibilty seems to be better than most.

For example, I've had a lot of feedback regarding NEC drives being very picky about what media they will accept, whereas the Pioneer's don't really seem to care.

Note I'm on about what they reckon they will write to - whether or not that means they will only write at say 1x for example and that is an issue for you I can't say. Also, just because you can write to a disc doesn't mean that media will work in all your intended target device. My point is solely that Pioneer's seem more tolerant of cheap or unusual media than some of the competitors, which is a good thing if you're an early adopter of new media and / or don't want to mess around with your firmware. It means you're less likely to buy a load of blanks one day and find the recorder refuses to have anything to with them.

  4. Keep the Pioneer 106.

Its much better then the earlier Pioneer models and definitely better than the Nec1300 (and the HP300 is based on the Nec1100-1300 hardware).

  5. Keep them both, its not like you can retire to a tropical island after selling one, writers are too cheap these days.
