For those of you, like me, who have had much success with the TDK brand, Best Buy has the 25 pack spindles of DVD-R & +R's listed for $24.99, in todays Sunday paper insert.

  3. The problem is TDK no longer makes their own media.
The Made in Japan TDK's were of excellent quality... but now it looks like they're mostly made by CMC- which usually means they are crap. Some Made in Taiwan's I've picked up are Ritek G04's which are pretty good... but with TDK who knows what media you'll actually get. So if it was good one time it may not be the next. Do a search in the Media forum for more info.

I would avoid them and go for the Maxell or Taiyo Yuden if you care about quality. Other acceptable cheaper alternatives are Ritek or ProDisc.
rima.com is great for bulk if you don't want to wait for the sales.

I read all the posts pertaining to media brands when I first started burning (less than 6 months ago).

Before buying the 25 pack spindles of the TDK 2x, I bought a 5 pack, to try. They worked fine, so when I saw the spindles on sale, I bought them. In fact, I'm on my 3rd spindle with no coasters. Another one that has worked well for my set up has been the Verbatim "Movie Reel" DVD's which I've have found for $27.00 for the 25 pack spindle.

Initially, for all of us, it may be trial and error. I found that I could not use Memorex and Sony. There's a web site (I'll have to try to find the link) that I've been to that lists suggested media brands by quality and CMC is listed at or near the top ???

In my opinion, it's like the "to label or not" issue, what works on your set up, may not work with mine and vise versa

CORRECTION: I had my CMC and MCC confused.

    The site

    http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

does, in fact list CMC as "landfill material".
