I was at Staples today to buy more canned air when I saw this:
A Logitech Marble Mouse Trackball
In a completely irrational move, I bought it having never used one before. I am posting this partially using this trackball. So far, it is like learning to ride a bike all over again. But hopefully, I will get used to it and like it. The scroll buttons are way too fast even at slowest speed.
Anybody have one of these or similar.

Still prefer my mouse:
That one is dead comfy to use. I never got on with trackballs, by last one had an "accident".

Cap,
You like the touchscreen? I am damned pissed that my all in one KB died on me.
Click, double click, scroll, drag['n drop, one finger, half an inch motion, cross the screen. I goddamn deal. But serial, converted to PS2, then something went wrong. Using this suck ass Alps Wave, no hotcorners, still, better, for me than a mouse..
Bought my 3 year old grandson a trackball about 5 years ago. He kept stealing the ball to play with. Serial, again, I got it back, but it is just trash, now.
Now, if you need a trackball, one of my kids got me a finger held model, keep it on your index, middle finger, control it with a thumb and a finger or two. never hooked it up, don't know how it works, well or no.
Cheers,
George
But, they do beat the eraser head, for a laptop, don't they?
edit: I thought this was going to be a sanitary thing, too. Ohhhh, what a dirty device,a nd "compressed air" is not an option. -
I don't like trackballs either. But the pointing device is one of those things that that your decision should be 10% technical and 90% personal. In fact, I knew one person that prefered a remote control with a pointing stick (those small rubber things on laptops). He called it his rat since "it was too good to be called a mouse" LOL!
same thing with keyboards, I can't stand those natural keyboards. bleck!"A beginning is the time for taking the most delicate care that the balances are correct."

Paint that sucker white, add a little red rouge, a rainbow colored wrist pad and you have the Special Capmaster Edition Logitech Marble Mouse Trackball. -
What a bunch of geeks!!!
Posting pictures of trackballs and mice..... next it will be keyboards and scanners!
Just admit it - you're all a bunch of post whores!

And it would confuse me, having to use my thumb for left clicks! i think i remember seeing a trackball that also had an optical sensor underneath, now -that- would be confusing
Quite liked my laptop touch pad, not so keen on the lame joystick toshiba laptops had in between the keys -

Well, after a few days, I think I am much better with the trackball. It is a little akward at first but I think it is very good for your fingers since you practice finger coordination as opposed to just moving your arm. My finger reflexes will soon be superb. I will be able to pick my nose with my eyes closed!
Any suggestions and tips for how to use a trackball? It came with no real instructions. How many fingers do I use? Do i lay it straight or at an angle etc? Feel free to let out your jokes first about how to "handle your balls" and how you have to be gentle but firm with a loving grip. Then, you will become the teacher and I will become the humble grasshopper. My mind is open and my heart is true. Teach me wise ones. -
I use one of these , I find the ones with the left and right buttons on opposite sides of the mouse very uncomfortable . My hands are quite large and I found I had to contort my little finger to do a right click , I had one after a microsoft trackball (which I thought was excellent but expensive) died , then I found this one and it is great. Extremely comfortable to use. -
Left button --- Thumb
Ball --- First, second, and sometimes third finger
Right Button --- whatever is left over to click itHope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?
