We want you to spend mroe money on the newer drives so don't make your older models better without paying us more money. Is that how it reads??

I flashed using Herrie's newest FW (HP/2510DL) at http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=96333 and as long as it dont affect burning of SL DVD then its not an issue, especialy if it supports more media types and faster realiable write speeds then the official FW. DL DVD burning is a plus if and when DL media becomes available. Hey, U can amost alway flash back to the official FW if needed. There has been few pple at the NEC forum that has burned DL with the hax 2500-2510 FW and the compatibility is about the same as what a online-review ( http://www.trustedreviews.com/article.aspx?art=459 ) site got with a true NEC 2510 DL burner. Seems to work with some standalone DVD players and had trouble with some older DVD-ROMs.

Edit: there are a few versions of the 2500 hax DL fw out there. I use the one listed above.

    $68.

But you can now buy a New 2510a double layer writer for $97.00 that already comes with the right firmware & optical pickup.
