The topic says it all....i have a digital 8 camcorder (dcr-trv230), then i tried to record in the 8mm video cassette, i found out that the quality is the same as recording in a digital 8 tape... is this true? i didn't see any quality different or anything. s0 why buy digital 8 tape?

Where did you see Digital 8 tape? With a Digital 8 camcorder you use either regular 8mm tape or Hi8 tape. Hi8 preferred for less dropouts.

There are tapes labeled "D8" now. But there is no dropout difference due to the type IME. Better tapes (D8, Hi8, Computer backup 8mm) have greater bandwidth, but that only matters if you want to record in long play mode (regular video8 won't).Originally Posted by dfisher
